Why I get this error while backup creation: Dropbox Backup wasn’t created. There is not enough script running time to perform backup operations, please increase the PHP variable max_execution_time.

I keep getting this message and can’t make backup. Dropbox Backup/Local backup wasn’t created. There is not enough script running time to perform backup operations, please increase the PHP variable max_execution_time. What am I doing wrong? Give me some steps how to solve the problem.

Some materials require longer time to process before being transmitted and in most cases the hosting / server has time limits. That is why, it is necessary to increase the timeout in order to perform the backup/restore.

First of all , open “Settings” in Dropbox Full Backup plugin main page in your WordPress website dashboard.

Find the setting “Waiting time (minutes)” with default value of “3”.
Please increase it up to “8”, “10” or “15” and try to perform backup/restore again.

If this setting doesn’t help, please follow the following steps:

1. If you have access to your hosting / server dashboard, please, find PHP settings and add the following:

max_execution_time = 900 (script running 900 seconds).

2. If you have access to FTP settings, find FTP file, called php.ini and add there

max_execution_time = 900 (script running 900 seconds).

3. If you can’t find the php.ini file, then just try to create a new one in the root folder of your website. Add the setting described above to the created php.ini file.

4. If the methods above doesn’t work for you – try to append variable at the end of index.php file in root folder of your website.

ini_set(‘max_execution_time’, ‘900’).

5. You can also add the following code in .htaccess file:

php_value max_execution_time 900

If 900 is not enough for your script running time, write 1200 and so forth.

If you write down 0, you will have unlimited script running time.

**Check, if you have added this setting to the currently active php.ini file.**

If the above mentioned methods do not work, or your web host does not allow you to do it, please, address to your server/hosting administrator.

    Hi, it just doesn’t seem likely that the problem is lack of time – it looks like the process is genuinely stalled. I was able to do a full backup 2-3 times, and the full procedure never took more than 5 minutes, but now it just always gets very quickly to the massage “archiving of files (310 of 3942) – 8% – and then never gets any further no matter if I increase wait time to 12 minutes. In any case, if the problem really WAS that a full dropbox backup suddenly takes more than 12 minutes….

    Anyway, while writing this, I tried one desperate thing that was turned out to be just right: deactivate a few plugins. Obvious perhaps – but you might want to add it at the very top of your list of suggestions – it might save hours of time for other ignorants than myself…

    Thanks for a useful plugin!

      Hello,

      thank you for sharing your experience. What plugins have you deactivated that helped you to complete the backup process?

      Sometimes security plugins influence the process and backup / restore can stall.
